Wimbledon Common is a vast open space situated in Wimbledon. The area is divided in parts – Putney Heath, Wimbledon Common and Putney Lower Common, managed by the Wimbledon and Putney Commons. Most of the land is a Special Area of Conservation and a Site of Special Interest. Putney Heath and Wimbledon Common are also a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature and Conservation.
The area is bordered by Richmond Park, Putney Vale, Kingston Vale, Southfields, Wimbledon, Wimbledon Chase and Raynes Park. Some of the most popular sights are the War Memorial, Near Windmill, Seven Post Pond and Rushmere Pond.
Along the western edge of Wimbledon Common runs the Beverly Brook. The minor river flows from Worcester Park and passes through New Malden, Motspur Park, Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park. Near Warren Farm and Beverly Brook are two Local Nature Reserves that are managed by the London Wildlife Trust – Fishpond Wood and Beverley Meads and Farm Bog.
In the south west part of Wimbledon Common is located Old Central School. The area is also home to the London Scottish Golf Club and the Thames Hare and Hounds, which is the world’s oldest cross country running club.
