Located east of Richmond and south of Mortlake, East Sheen is an important commercial thoroughfare and economic hub in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The Upper Richmond Road West that connects Richmond and Putney passes through the area. The suburb is a mixture of mid-rise and low-rise buildings and vast park and open spaces including Richmond Park and East Sheen Common.

Several churches are situated in the area, including the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Christ Church, All Saints, East Sheen Baptist Church and Elim Pentecostal Church. There is no separate Roman Catholic Church in the area. The church of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Richmond and St Mary Magdalen in Mortlake also serve the suburb.

East Sheen is home to the Richmond Park Academy which is part of the Academies Enterprise Trust. Other schools include Tower House Boys’ Preparatory School. The area is linked to the rest of the capital via Mortlake railway station and three Transport for London bus routes.

Some of the most notable residents of East Sheen are actor Tom Hardy and computer scientist and inventor of the World Wide Web Sir Tim Berners-Lee. The district is also the last home of rock star Marc Bolan, who lived on 142 Upper Richmond Road West.  The site where Bolan died is few miles away from his home and is now a Bolan’s Rock Shrine.
